Launched in 2023, Legends of the Mara emerged as a 2D adventure and resource management game in the Otherside universe. The journey began with Otherdeed Expanded NFTs and Vessels that evolved into Maras, establishing a foundation for Yuga Labs' innovative Web3 gaming experience.
Legends of the Mara began as a collection-based 2D strategy game set in the Otherside universe. The game combines the collectability of a card game with the relaxed pace of an idle tap game, allowing players to defend their land from Shattered, farm resources, and evolve their characters.
At the heart of Legends of the Mara are the Oda - magical beings tied to the fate of Otherside. These include the powerful Kodas (the primary keepers of Otherside), Maras (which hatch from Vessels), and Kodamaras (evolved Maras). Players use these characters to farm resources, defend against Shattered, and enhance their gameplay experience.
Yuga Labs officially announced Legends of the Mara, a collection-based 2D strategy game with its own companion collection. This game would allow players to claim Vessels, discover their potential, and forge their path in the Otherside universe.
The Koda Decoupling and Vessel Claim process began, allowing players to burn their original Otherdeed NFTs in exchange for Otherdeed Expanded NFTs, Vessels, and Kodas (if present on the original Otherdeed). This marked the preparation phase for entering the Legends of the Mara universe.
Legends of the Mara open beta Season 1 officially launched, allowing players to hatch Mara from Vessels, harvest and trade Sediment Fragments, and defend their land from Shattered. Players could earn loot chests containing items for spaceship crafting and NFTs from partner collection ecosystems.
Under Yuga Labs' direction, Legends of the Mara completed three full game seasons. During this period, players engaged in farming Sediment Fragments, evolving their Maras into Kodamaras, and battling against Shattered in the defense of Otherside. Each season introduced new challenges and rewards.
Faraway announced the acquisition of HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara from Yuga Labs. As part of the deal, Spencer Tucker, Yuga's Chief Gaming Officer, joined Faraway as their new Chief Product Officer. This acquisition marked a new chapter for the game under Faraway's direction.
Following the acquisition, Faraway launched Season 3.5 as a transitional season. This update introduced LOTM Points for Kodamara, Koda, and Mara NFTs, along with modifications to sediment farming rates and rewards systems. It marked the beginning of Faraway's vision for the game's future development.
With Faraway now leading development, Legends of the Mara is set to evolve with numerous planned improvements. Future updates promise Shattered that fight back, increased tactical depth, new abilities, boss phases, HV-MTL integration, and new Shattered types. Players can look forward to a more dynamic and engaging experience as the game continues to grow under Faraway's direction.
